Privacy, Age & General Data Protection Regulations and Policies

This privacy pledge discloses how Self Publish University, LLC handles personal information collected by Self Publish University, which Self Publish University includes full compliance with all general data protection regulations. Any user outside of the United States hereby verifies that they are 18 years of age or older and freely gives specific, informed and unambiguous indication that he or she, by registering for a free Publishing Center account, signifies agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her as outlined below. Persons within the United States may be 13-17 years of age provided they have the permission of their legal guardian; otherwise over the age of 18.

Personal information is information like your name, address, email address, or phone number as well as additional information that is not otherwise publicly available.

Self Publish University may collect personal information when you register for a Publishing Center, when you click on a Pay-per-Click ad paid for by Self Publish University, or when you participate in the publishing process through the Self Publish University website.

Self Publish University collects information about your transactions with us through your use of the services that we offer. We do not purchase any personal data from other companies nor do we profile the personal data you provide to us. If you wish to withdraw your consent, it is your responsibility to do so and you can unsubscribe at any time from the emails being provided to you by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every email. You must also cease using this website.

Our website host automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, browser settings, and pages requested. Self Publish University also writes a cookie to your computer. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer. Self Publish University will write and access Self Publish University cookies on your computer to facilitate your log-in process or to track your affiliate referrals. The information linked by the cookie is only your user ID number. We do not link to or store any other personally identifiable information to the cookie. We use both session ID cookies (for the shopping cart) and persistent cookies (for the Publishing Center and Affiliate program). You can manually delete cookies at any time by following the directions given in your Internet browser’s Help file. Server logs from your browser, including your IP address, browser settings, and page requests may be kept through perpetuity, however we only use this specific type of personal information to facilitate your experience on our website.

Outside of the exceptions above Self Publish University uses personal information to:

* offer author support either via the Author Services (pre-publication) support program or the COACH (post-publication) support program. As a registered participant of this program, Self Publish University may send e-mails containing publishing or promotion information geared toward helping you make decisions regarding publication and marketing.

In order to publish through Self Publish University, you will need to create a Publishing Center account. When you register for an account, we will ask for your first name and email address. This is the only required information prior to becoming a paying customer of Self Publish University, although optional personal information includes your last name, mailing address, and phone number. Once you register for a Publishing Center account, you are not anonymous to us. You can edit your account information at any time, including changing or removing your last name, address, phone number. You may also change or edit your email address or password at any time.

When you begin the publishing process with your deposit or full package fee, we will ask for your full name, billing address, and phone number. We will also ask for payment information (credit card number) and your billing address. This information is securely processed through Thawte secure certification and is encrypted through secure socket layer (SSL) technology for your protection.

We never keep your credit card information on file or stored online. Every time you purchase, you will need to re-enter your credit card number. This is for your protection and security. Additionally, when you order books, we will request your delivery address for the purposes of calculating your shipping fees and for the purposes of delivering your order.

In order to receive royalty checks, you will have to maintain an accurate postal address in your author’s center, including your full name name, address, and phone number.

Your royalties may be subject to US tax laws. Therefore, in order to receive payment, you will need to provide either your SSN, TIN, or EIN for the sole purpose of our issuing a 1099 form reporting your annual earnings.

If you are not a US taxpayer, you will be required to complete a W8 form declaring your exemption.

We limit employee and contractor access to your personal information. For example, only the accounting department has access to your tax information.

If you include any personal information in content that you save to your author webpage or include in your book, that information may be widely available to other users. Self Publish University does not exercise control over those users and cannot guarantee that your personal information will be protected as described in this Privacy Policy. Self Publish University does not delete or edit your personal information from any content you provide on your personal Author Webpage or within the body of your publications. If you do not want your personal information to be displayed, then only include it in the Author Profile section of your Publishing Center.

Outside of what is described above, Self Publish University does not share your personal information with other people or nonaffiliated companies nor to any third country or international organization, although we may need to disclose your personal information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims, or as otherwise required by law. Additionally, we may need to disclose your personal information if we believe it is necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or violations of our production and distribution agreement. Lastly, we would need to share your personal information in the event Self Publish University is acquired by or merged with another company.

This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Self Publish University, LLC does not own or control, nor to people that Self Publish University does not employ.

Terms of Use

These terms (the “Terms of Use”) govern your access to and use of https://Self Publish University.com (the “Site”), including all Content (defined below) provided by Self Publish University, LLC (“Self Publish University”), a self-publishing company. By accessing or using the Site, you accept and agree to the Terms of Use.

The Site is offered and available to users who are either a) at least 18 years of age; or b) at least 13 years of age and accessing the Site with the participation of a parent or legal guardian who is over the age of 18. By using the Site, you represent and warrant that you meet all of the foregoing eligibility requirements. If you do not meet all of these requirements, you must not access or use the Site.

Modifications

Self Publish University reserves the right to revise and update the Terms of Use at any time and at its sole discretion. All changes are effective immediately upon posting, and apply to all access to and use of the Site thereafter. The most current version of the Terms of Use will supersede all previous versions. Your continued use of the Site following posting of revised Terms of Use means that you accept and agree to the changes.

Limited License

The Site, including, but not limited to, all information, software or HTML code, scripts, text, artwork, photography, images, video, and audio, and the design, selection and arrangement thereof and all intellectual property associated with the foregoing (collectively, the “Content”) are the sole property of Self Publish University and are protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, patent and other intellectual property or proprietary rights laws. All Content is provided as a service to users of the Site.

Marks

All trademarks, trade names, brand names, logos and images, service marks and trade dress displayed on the Site (collectively, “Marks”) are the property of Self Publish University and Self Publish University retains all rights regarding their use.

Linking to Social Media Features

The Site may provide certain social media features that enable you to:

• Link to or from certain third-party websites to certain content on the Site.

• Send e-mails or other communications with certain content, or links to certain content, on the Site.

• Cause limited portions of content on the Site to be displayed or appear to be displayed on your own or certain third-party websites.

Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT WILL Self Publish University, ITS AFFILIATES OR ITS RESPECTIVE LICENSORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OFFICERS OR DIRECTORS BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES (WHETHER DIRECT, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR OTHERWISE) ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE, ANY WEBSITES LINKED TO IT, ANY CONTENT ON THE WEBSITE OR SUCH OTHER WEBSITES OR FOR ANY INFORMATION, SOFTWARE, PRODUCTS, OR SERVICES OBTAINED THROUGH OR OTHERWISE IN CONNECTION WITH THE SITE OR OTHER WEBSITES, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SUCH DAMAGES ARE BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHER THEORIES OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF FORESEEABLE (COLLECTIVELY, THE “EXCLUDED DAMAGES”).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Self Publish University, its affiliates, licensors and service providers, and its and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, successors and assigns from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, fines, penalties, or fees (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms of Use or use of the Site, including, but not limited to: (i) any use of the Content other than as expressly authorized in these Terms of Use or your use of any information obtained from the Site; and (ii) all claims arising from your fraud, intentional misconduct, criminal acts or gross negligence. If you cause a technical disruption of the Site or the systems transmitting the Site to you or others, you agree to be responsible for any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, fines, penalties, or fees (including reasonable attorneys? fees), arising or resulting from that disruption.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

The laws of the State of Alabama govern these Terms of Use and your use of the Site, without giving effect to its conflict of laws provisions. By accessing the Site you agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the State of Alabama and agree that it shall serve as the exclusive venue for any disputes relating to the Site. You further agree to waive any defense of inconvenient forum in connection with the maintenance of any action or proceeding so brought.

Pledge of Confidentiality

Since 2014, Self Publish University has been entrusted with thousands and thousands of manuscripts by thousands and thousands of authors. Our company and brand integrity depend upon maintaining the confidentiality of each manuscript we review and maintaining the trust of each writer we work with. As such, Self Publish University pledges that the manuscript(s) and other materials you submit for publication will not be used, copied, sold, assigned, shared, or disclosed for any other reason outside of the services you specifically request from Self Publish University. Self Publish University further pledges that you, as the author of said work, retain 100% of the rights and copyrights to 100% of your manuscript and materials.

Please maintain possession of your original manuscript and materials while only providing us with digital copies or photocopies. Unless otherwise specified by you, Self Publish University assumes all materials we receive are digital and/or photocopies of the original work.
